Spartans polo team bounces back after tourney

The Bainbridge High boys water polo team found unfriendly waters at the Curtis Tournament.

The Spartans fell to Enumclaw, Lakes, Auburn Riverside, Roosevelt and Peninsula.

Nick Williams scored four goals, and Toby Yates added one, in the Bainbridge-Enumclaw matchup. The Hornets stung the Spartans 17-5.

Bainbridge played a close contest against Lakes, but the Lancers outlasted the Spartans 18-11.

The Spartan offense came from Noah Clark (two goals), Williams (six), Riley Deering (two) and Rory Gallivan (two).

Auburn Riverside rolled past Bainbridge 17-5. Williams again led the Spartan scoring attack with two goals. Gallivan, Clark and Conner Vacca scored one goal each.

Roosevelt also gave Bainbridge a rough ride with a 15-3 loss.  Williams, Mathias VanPatten and David Jenkins each scored for the Spartans.

Bainbridge took Peninsula to the brink but the Seahawks escaped with a 19-16 win.

Williams scored nine goals for the Spartans, Clark contributed three, and Deering and Riker Haddon had two each.

Bainbridge rebounded with a 12-7 win against Rain City on Oct. 15.

Six Spartans scored in the match. Vacca and Haddon contributed one goal each, while Clark and Amanda Sellman each added two goals. Williams and Gallivan finished with three goals each.

In a later match against Mercer Island on Oct. 17, the Islanders prevailed over the Spartans 19-8.

Clark contributed four goals, Williams added three and Deering chipped in one.

Bainbridge finished the week with a 17-16 win over Kentridge.

Williams found the net eight times, while Clark, Deering, Jacob Nowjack and Riker Haddon got two goals each.
