October 26, 2012 · 11:11 AM
Linfield College freshman Emma Vukic and former Bainbridge High soccer standout was honored last week as the Northwest Conference Women’s Soccer “Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week.”
Vukic is the second-leading scorer for the Wildcats, and she was named athlete of the week in recognition of her goal-scoring performances in Linfield’s wins against Lewis & Clark and Willamette.
The award was a first for the freshman.
Vukic scored both of Linfield’s goals in a 2-1 win over Lewis & Clark and added a goal in the Wildcats’ 3-0 win over Willamette. The three goals brought her goal total for the year to six (through 14 matches).
Among league opponents, Vukic is tied for fourth in season goal scoring and is also tied for second with three game-winning goals.
The Wildcats are in the hunt for their first-ever league title.
Following the pair of victories, Linfield moved into the lead in the Northwest Conference with Whitworth as both schools moved to a conference record of 7-1-2. Linfield’s overall record, however, improved to 11-1-2.
