Spartans splash Port Angeles, four qualify for state

The Bainbridge girls swimming and diving team sank Port Angeles 95-76 this week, and four Spartans had times that will qualify them for state 3A competition.

The Spartans’ Shayla Archer and Sarah Grundman both qualified for state in two individual events.

Archer had times that qualified her for state in two events; the 100-yard butterfly, with a time of 1:00.89, and the 500-yard freestyle, with a time of 5:23.55.

The 3A qualifying time for state in the 100-yard butterfly is 1:02.20. In the 500-yard freestyle, the 3A qualifying time is 5:27.90.

Grundman finished first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:16.42. The state time for 3A swimmers in the event is 2:17.20.

She also took first place in the 200-yard freestyle. Her time of 2:01.07 was also good enough to qualify for state; 2:01.90 is the qualifying time for 3A competition in the 200-yard freestyle.

The relay team of Archer, Grundman, Ani Duni and Candice Rosen also bested the state qualifying time in the 200-yard medley relay.

The girls finished in 1:56.42; the state qualifying time is 1:58.50.
