Islander picked for WestSound FC
August 19, 2012 · 9:52 AM
WestSound FC announced the 2012 recipients of the annual Nub Greer college scholarships, and the athletes include Devereaux Kesler of Bainbridge Island.
Kesler will attend Santa Clara Universitynext year and play soccer. He was one of four selected to receive the scholarship.
The others were Jalyn Halstead of Bremerton, (Linfield College, soccer and basketball); Jennifer Lovato of Poulsbo (undecided); and Jonathon Murphy of Poulsbo (Washington State University, will pursue a degree in engineering).
The scholarships are named for Nub Greer, a long-time supporter of soccer and founding force in the development of WestSound FC.
It was important to Greer that WestSound FC players had access to a college scholarship, and he encouraged all players to give back to their communities in a way that mirrored the commitment they’d seen from their soccer coaches, club and mentors.
