Playoff Update: Fastpitchers make it five in a row; two more racqueteers head to state

The Bainbridge fastpitch team took care of business Thursday, defeating Bishop Blanchet 9-1 in a 3A Sea-King District 2 quarterfinal game at Lower Woodland Field Wednesday to qualify for the 3A state tournament next week. It's the fifth year in a row the Spartans have made it.

Katie Raben went all seven innings for her sixth win of the year. She gave up just two walks and two hits while striking out 12.

Clara Dunn went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double and two RBI while Caitlin McCormick went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBI. Erin Kinney was 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBI while Taylor Greenfield was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI. Alison Reichert drove in two runs with a base hit.

Bainbridge plays Juanita at 2 p.m. They can finish no worse than fourth.

Matt and Scott Alderson are joining teammates Sasha Carter, Grace Porter and Kelly Jameson at state next week.

The duo defeated Jon and David Yu of Lakeside 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5) to claim the fifth and final spot to state at the 3A Sea-King District 2 meet at Lower Woodland Park in Seattle Wednesday.

Sasha Carter lost to Natalie Allen in the girls' singles final while Grace Porter and Kate Jameson lost to Kelly Crandall and Nora Tan of Mercer Island in the girls doubles final.

Keet Curtis, Jacob Christensen, Jordan Ferguson, Sam Claney and Mark Scott were all eliminated.
