Spartan athletics are in full swing at Bainbridge High School as eight teams kick off the fall season. While five veteran head coaches return, three first-year coaches have stepped into new roles as leaders of the golf and water polo programs. With just a week of practice under their belts, BHS’ head coaches share their insight on the upcoming season.

Coach: Julie Miller, 13th year

2009 record: 9-18

Post-season result: District tournament, 25-21, 25-21, 19-25, 25-22 loss to Holy Names.

Seniors graduated: Joanna Shea, Bridget Blacker and Camille Moore

Varsity returners: Cali Moore, Sarah Dacquisto, Nina Mutty and Katrina Frickleton

Returning starters: Frickleton, Mutty and Moore

Captains: Moore, Mutty and Frickleton

Deepest position: “We don’t really have a lot of depth at any of them. We’re going to be very young because we have no seniors whatsoever this year.

Contest to look forward to: “The first one, usually, just because you get the season started and that’s kind of an exciting thing. We played [North Mason] last year and they had a really young team.”

What needs to happen for the Spartans to be successful in their first contest against North Mason Sept. 7: “Just coming together as a team. Everybody getting on the same page is really important; I think that’s probably the biggest thing.”
