San Carlos is Hyla Chili Cook-off winner | Letters | June 11

The 13th Annual Hyla Chili Cook-off was a great success this year, thanks to the participation and generous donations from the following restaurants: San Carlos, Harbour Public House, Doc’s, Real Foods Market and Cafe, Casa Rojas, Arbutus Market Kitchen, Café Nola and Blackbird Bakery.
The cook-off is a great event due to the generous donations of time, fantastic chili and delicious cornbread provided by these restaurants.
Thanks to the judges, too: Jim White, chef from IslandWood; Trish King, The Island School; Debbi Lester; and Beth and Rachel Balas from Friends of the Farms.
And huge congratulations to San Carlos, winner of the judged competition; to both San Carlos and Harbour Public House, which were co-winners of the people’s choice vote; and to Café Nola, the runner-up in both categories.
Thanks to the band, Oxygen Tank, which provided terrific music; and the parents, faculty and staff at Hyla for their generous donations of time and effort to help make it a terrific day for all those who joined us.
I’m looking forward to next year.
Dave Cinamon
Hyla parent and event coordinator
