I am writing to congratulate Debbi Lester and each of the winning candidates for City Council. I wish all of them the very best during their four-year term in office.
Although I did not prevail, I thank my supporters. I am humbled by the many positive letters and comments that were presented on my behalf, and by the financial and emotional support that I was offered during the campaign.
I particularly appreciated the collegial tone of our pre-election events and forums. As candidates, we know first hand what the challenges of running for office are, and we have all survived!
I’m also grateful to have been born in a time and in a nation where a 61-year-old educated woman who works at a skilled trade can decide to run for office for the first time in her life. To some extent, it was the echo of JFK’s challenge from the 1960s, together with Obama’s vision for a renewed America, that encouraged me to step up to serve the city that I love.
I am thankful the Taliban is not here, and that each of us can be whatever we would choose to be. Thanks to all of you who exercised your privilege to vote.
I will continue to take a serious interest in our city, and I hope each of you will join me and become even more involved in your local government.
