Open-water marina will cause more harbor problems|Letters|Oct. 30

So much for fiscal responsibility! The council vote, to provide an open-water marina in Eagle Harbor has got to be one of their dumbest decisions yet.

The reasoning goes that if the city doesn’t build a marina for the anchored-out boats, they (the boats) will be cited by the state for trespassing.

So the city finds it incumbent upon itself to fund, build and operate a facility they know will not serve the purpose intended.

The folks anchored in the harbor can’t afford the fee, so they’ll go away and the city will be left with the ensuing maintenance and bureaucracy that goes with the new facility – all at additional expense to a budget already in the red.

Why was it up to the city to solve a state problem? Why would this even be an item on the council agenda? Seems to me that if the state has a problem, the state should solve it.

Well, one thing about the City Council, it sure keeps things interesting. We have our own soap opera. I wonder what kind of bonds they’ll want to float to support this.
