Hytopoulos knows to 'cut to the core' | Letters | Oct. 23

I strongly support Kirsten Hytopoulos’ candidacy for City Council. Although I have only known Kirsten for a short while, I have come to know her as a compassionate person who cares deeply about island issues.

She shows an in-depth knowledge about past and current issues and she openly listens to both sides of a discussion. She then intelligently cuts to the core and presents a balanced opinion of how to proceed.

For instance, when I recently discussed city handling of the Island Gateway permit process with her, she readily identified the core problem: The city’s Planning Department is tasked with establishing policies, enforcing them and also auditing customer and in-house compliance with the rules.

She suggested that an independent SEPA-review person would go a long way to solve such conflicts.

With Kirsten on the council I am convinced that we will have a representative who will deal with city issues in an intelligent, practical fashion. She will be able to work constructively and cooperatively with other council members to get things done to the benefit of our community.
