With the election date fast closing in, I’d like to encourage folks to mark “yes” for council-manager and for schools on their ballots.
The Bainbridge Island School District’s implementation of its long-range plan allows the costs of the much-needed infrastructure repairs and replacement of Wilkes to occur as costs of another school bond are ending.
These upgrades will save the district maintenance and operating expenses and allow scarce M&O funds to be used for programs and teacher retention.
The council-manager form, too, will save tax dollars in the future. Historically, cities governed by elected councilors, with staff overseen by a hired manager, operate with 30 percent more efficiency.
