Wrong decision regarding trees | Letters | Feb. 6

I am stunned, deeply disappointed and saddened by City of Bainbridge Island Hearing Examiner Margaret Klockars’ dismissal of an appeal by Save Bainbridge Trees to Winslow Holdings LLC’s proposed development of a site at Wyatt Way and Madison Avenue.
That this property is even being “developed” in the first place is a tragic affront to this community.
That the COBI’s Planning Department and hearing examiner cannot respond to its community’s plea to protect even a modicum of its historic character and value – including three 80- to 100-year-old heritage trees – displays clear disregard and disrespect for this community. It signals a very dangerous context for its future planning.
I find no objectivity or responsible thinking on Ms. Klockars’ part with respect to this decision, therefore, I request she remove herself from any further involvement in this issue.
