To the editor:

It was an honor to attend the annual awards gala for the Bainbridge Island Police Department. I wish all the citizens could have been there, because I think many would have come away with much more positive feelings toward our officers and those who assist them in their daily duties of keeping us safe.

There has not been such an event in many years, according to Chief Hamner, but it will become an annual event in the future. There were a number of categories that brought honor to a specific officer, with appropriate plaques and framable paperwork. I believe this event was put together by our police chief and the city manager, and they should be applauded for the results of their efforts.

Good job, everyone, and especially the Bainbridge Island Police Department.
