Bainbridge company cares about community | LETTER TO THE EDITOR
To the editor:
My name is Dani Hemmat and I am a member of Congregation Kol Shalom, North Kitsap’s synagogue. I have also been the religious school director since 2010.
Being a smaller religious nonprofit, we operate on a shoestring budget and depend on the donations of time and materials from our members. It’s sort of expected in a small, mostly volunteer organization that has to fill many needs within our Jewish community. We also volunteer ourselves in the greater Bainbridge community, to fulfill our mission statement.
This time, however, a person outside our synagogue community stepped up and volunteered to do a most remarkable thing for us, and I’d like to share that with the greater Bainbridge Island community.
Two months ago, I was at the school cleaning up, and a gentleman from Bainbridge Heating and Air knocked on the door. He introduced himself, and I braced myself for the sales pitch. See, our school is very old, and the plumbing is in desperate need of repair. Repairs our organization can’t make. I assumed this man had heard we’d been shopping around and was going to try and sell us services that we can’t afford.
I was wrong. He introduced himself as Curt Carlisle, the owner of Bainbridge Heating and Air, and then said, “I heard from RePower that you folks can’t afford to put in a new water heater and pipes. That doesn’t seem right to me. You are in my community, and a school in my community should have hot water. Let me make it right for you.”
He then proceeded to offer his services to repair our system. Just like that. For no other reason than to help out someone in his Island community.
We are so very grateful for his generosity and kindness, and I personally am inspired by his actions. I know he didn’t do this deed for any other reason than to help out, but I want the Bainbridge community to know that there are angels walking around on this island, and one of them is named Curt Carlisle. These are the folks we need to support with our business, because they are paying it forward every day.
