Letters to the Editor

Bainbridge trailblazers deserve many thanks | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

After an enjoyable hike I took last weekend, I would like to say thank you to all who’ve had a part in setting aside and managing the parks and trail corridors on Bainbridge Island. This includes the Bainbridge Island parks employees for their efforts at creating new trails and maintaining existing ones. Likewise the Bainbridge Island Land Trust in their efforts to preserve lands, volunteers who’ve donated time and muscle power to building new trails, and others too numerous to list.

I woke up Saturday wanting to take an early spring hike. Not wishing to drive to the Olympics or Cascades,

I instead opted to stay closer to home. Starting at my home in Winslow,

I walked through the Grand Forest and Hilltop meadows at the center of the island to Fairy Dell beach north of Battle Point Park, then back home.

And the best part — I was on trails for more than 10 miles of the 12-mile route!

So well-done to all who’ve contributed and if I can make one small request, it is to create where possible more trails between parks, schools and beaches.
