To the editor:
The grand opening of the Waypoint (at Winslow Way and Highway 305) was a wonderful celebration of what a community can do if we simply work together for a common goal.
But, in the half-hour program, it was simply not possible to thank all of the almost 700 people who generously donated time, money, materials, services and vision to the creation of this new island gateway.
So, on behalf of the Steering Committee, a special thank-you to some of the key people who may have not gotten full mention at the grand opening:
Environmental permitting survey team: Chip Goodhue, Jill Johnston, Rob Cousins, Nina Cousins, John Peterson, Brenda Ruddick and Gavin Oak.
Design team: under the leadership of Johnpaul Jones, his associate, Colleen Thorpe, plus the people who made the public design workshops a success: Debbi Lester, Andrea Anderson, Skip Elm and Barbara Sacerdote.
Historical/arts team: Hank Helm, Debbi Lester, Gregg Mesmer, Diane Bonciolini, Michael Lewars and Barbara Sacerdote.
Fundraising team: Jim Laws, Steve Davis and Charlie Averill.
Communications-media team: Shannon Evans, Allen Ferris and Kimberly Gawlick.
Landscaping/drainage/irrigation team: Ann Lovejoy, Mike Mejia and his parks district work force, and Ed Moydell’s Bloedel Reserve groundskeeping crew.
Construction team: Project manager Craden Henderson and site manager Bart Berg, who were on site almost every day (and some nights). You guys made the design concept a reality.
Thank you all for your hard work and your generous hearts. My apologies to many others who deserve recognition as well. Of course, one more special thanks to Jim Chapel, the leader of us all.
