Be a Bainbridge broom buster this springtime | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

February 18, 2013 · 10:55 AM

To the editor:

Springtime hovers near, and now is a great time to take stock of this beautiful island while winter-repressed growth is low. Weeks from now Scotch broom will be flaunting gaudy yellow blooms. These highly invasive woody shrubs are ugly and unhealthy for the environment and for us.

We can all be island stewards by becoming “Broom busters.” Clear your private property, attend Weed warrior work parties, and join or support “SCoCo,” the Student Conservation Corps. Pulling a broom a day will keep several thousand away — truly!
