Letters to the Editor

Let’s send a message against the violence | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

The recent tragedy in Connecticut is but the latest comment on our society: what we value, how we see ourselves and how we see each other.

The tsunami of violence we as individuals and society take in each day — whether on TV, movies, games or the media — says volumes about who we are. The violence, whether a daily numbing dose or a shock, needs to be stemmed if we expect to call ourselves a civilized society.

In addition to proposing banning assault weapons one more time, what if we as a society called a one-week ban on viewing violence; no going to theaters with mayhem movies, slaughtering each other games, refusing to watch violent TV episodes?

Are we capable of doing this? YES.

What would be the message to Hollywood, software game factories and Internet sites?

If nothing else, it would remind us of what we could be.
