Rise & Shine event was a great success | LETTER TO THE EDITOR
To the editor:
On Sept. 29, the Housing Resources Board welcomed 200 friends and volunteers to our third annual Rise & Shine Breakfast, a fundraiser for our affordable housing programs serving the residents of Bainbridge Island.
We are immensely grateful to all of the volunteers, sponsors and organizations made this creative memorable event such a success!
Featured were two former residents who used HRB former transitional housing program. Their distinct and heartfelt stories demonstrate the ongoing need for affordable housing options and HRB’s effectiveness in meeting those needs.
The birdhouse auction was again a delightful creative component to the fundraiser built with community synergy and love. The Bainbridge Island Community Workshop built 30 cedar bird structures which local artists and architects then added their flair, craftsmanship and humor to.
We wish to thank ProBuild for supplying the wood and Columbia Bank for displaying the houses in their lobby the month of September generating visibility and sparking conversation about housing.
Our deepest thanks to our gracious host, Grace Episcopal Church for their welcome and perfect setting for our breakfast. We wish to thank our event presenters, Liberty Bay Bank and Central Highland Builders and a terrific group of sponsors including Columbia Bank, Kingston Lumber, Pacific NW Title, Guild Mortgage, Puget Sound Energy and Watson & McDonald CPAs. The services of Inside Bainbridge, the Kitsap Sun and Joni Carter design were also greatly appreciated.
And most of all thank you, our caring guests, leadership gift contributors and annual campaign donors who made ongoing pledges to Housing Resources Board. We raised more than $70,000! Your gift helps us every day build a diverse and inclusive community where all have access to safe, secure, affordable housing on this island we call home.
With deepest gratitude!

Vice Chairwoman, Housing Resources Board
