I-1240 takes away local control | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

October 30, 2012 · 8:36 AM

To the editor:

Charter School Initiative 1240 will create an expensive government bureaucracy in Olympia of unelected officials. It will cost million of dollars to run.

This money is going to bureaucracies and corporations, not into the classrooms where it is needed.

It is taking away local control of schools. There are no guarantees that:

• You can keep your school from becoming a charter school.

• You and your community can get rid of a poor charter school.

• Your kid will get a charter school that will be good for him/her.

This is why PTAs and school boards all over Washington haven’t bought into the false promises of I-1240. Vote no.
