Thank you Bainbridge Island Review for this outstanding and positive story (“Ancient opossums deserve respect, not fear,” Jan. 6) about our treasured opossum friends and for the caring folks at West Sound Wildlife Shelter.
I rescued an orphaned, unreleasable, 10-week-old male baby in July 2010. I obtained a Class Two Captive Wildlife Permit from the State of Florida to insure I could lawfully care for this precious and yes, misunderstood animal. Now 18 months later, Pablo remains in my care. What a life-changing experience it has been for the both of us.
I shared your story with friends, and have received exceptional feedback from some of them. Thanks to good people like Mikki Kas for posting her comment and again for a well-written and educational article, promoting understanding of this truly remarkable being of nature.
