The Zero Waste Initiative of Sustainable Bainbridge held the island’s first-ever styrofoam recycling collection at the T&C Earth Day Fair last Saturday.

The community responded by bringing tropical fish coolers, wine and juice polystyrene shipping holders, electronics and appliance packaging and “peanuts.”

We collected enough styrofoam to fill two vans, which Howard Block, co-owner of Bay Hay and Feed, will drive to the recycling facility in Renton. We’d like to thank Reliable Storage for providing a storage unit in case of overflow.

We’ll post notices of future styrofoam recycling days at Bay Hay and Feed on the Zero Waste page of the Sustainable Bainbridge website (www.sustainablebainbridge.org).

Our thanks to everyone who participated!
