One of the candidates vying for Steve Bauer’s position is Mr. C. Moriwaki of Bainbridge Island, a long-standing activist/lobbyist for his special-interest agenda and $9 million Bainbridge monument.

During Mr. Moriwaki’s lobbyist-campaign, he secured vast sums of public monies, public-employee support and special access from COBI, Kitsap County, Olympia and D.C. For those unfamiliar with him, a simple Google search will flesh out lobbying details.

The State Constitution places the selection of Bauer’s replacement with Kitsap County-elected Democratic Precinct Committee officers. However, all of the county’s 240,000 citizens deserve an interim commissioner without ties of conflict or favoritism.

Kitsap’s 2010 November elections reveal a clarion call for fair leadership. An incontrovertible fact: character counts.
