My wife and I attended the political forum at the Bainbridge Island American Legion Hall Monday. This was potentially a useful and constructive event, giving Rep. Jay Inslee and James Watkins an opportunity to describe their views and plans for serving in Congress.

At the start, the moderator requested that all applause be held until the end of the evening. Not only was this request immediately ignored by Mr. Watkins’ supporters, but they also made loud, derisive comments and noise disparaging and contradicting Mr. Inslee – disrupting his presentation.

We were appalled at the uncivilized behavior of many of the supporters of Mr. Watkins and further distressed by Mr. Watkins’ failure to call his supporters to order.

This experience has confirmed our intent to vote for Mr. Inslee and other Democrats on the ballot and has renewed our efforts to support the Democrats with time and money. We fear for the future of the country if the party that uses these tactics is allowed to control the government.
