By and large I love living on Bainbridge Island. The unique mix of physical beauty and an iconoclastic blend of artists, entreprenuers and thinkers make this a great place to call home. It’s the blend that generally makes us and the island the envy of many.

Every once in a while, however, something pops up to embarass us all. [Monday] night’s TV news about the Bailey Manor dispute did it for me. That report took the whole NIMBY attitude to a new low.

I found myself feeling sorry for the misguided resident who spoke of his concern about the added traffic the senior home would bring to the neighborhood and the “danger” to the children.

Not since an overzealous antiwar loudmouth booed our troops in the Fourth of July parade a few years ago have we looked so bad.
