Hit-and-run bicyclist slugs pedestrian | Letters | Oct. 8
October 8, 2010 · 11:19 AM
My wife and I were taking our afternoon (2:05 p.m.) walk on Manitou Beach Drive.
Walking towards the opposing traffic with my wife walking on the white line and me holding her hand, I spotted a bicyclist wearing a purple shirt and black backpack approaching us at a high speed.
The cyclist lifted up his right hand and with a full round-house struck me in the shoulder.
The punch was so powerful it almost knocked the cyclist down. Traffic proceeding westbound on Manitou Beach witnessed the assault and rapidly rendered assistance.
Although, I recovered quickly, my concern is if this person would strike one of our many elderly pedestrians that frequently walk for exercise along Manitou Beach. How does a middle-aged man sleep at night?
The assault was reported to the police on Oct. 4.
