Let's get giving

We would be remiss if we didn’t note the recent arrival of that telltale big red envelope in the mail, heralding the Bainbridge Foundation’s One Call For All drive.

More than 80 local non-profit organizations are represented, in spheres ranging from the arts and humanities to youth services, environmental advocacy, emergency response, public and private education, health and human services –

the very foundations of a sound community.

Last year, we documented the trend seen of late across the philanthropic spectrum: bigger donations, but a stagnant donor base. Perhaps 1,500 individuals were moved to contribute last year – a high-water mark, but a poor response given the more than 8,000 households on the island.

More of us should be giving, not just giving more.

To find out more about the drive, see www.bainbridgefoundation.org, or pick up a copy of the One Call For All supplement at the Review’s front desk.

Better yet, talk to someone you know who’s affiliated with one of those 80-plus community organizations, and find out what your donation means to their work. Then give.
