William Playter, age 69

      William Playter died June 24 at his home on Bainbridge Island with his wife of 51 years, Ruth Ann, by his side.

      He grew up in Poulsbo with his parents Richard & Marion Playter, brothers Richard and David and sister Carol, all whom have preceded him in death. He was part of the class of 1961 at North Kitsap High School.

      Bill is survived by his wife; daughter Kimberly (Richard) Larvia; sons Kevin (Barbara) Playter and Ken Playter; along with eight grandchildren (Chelise, Calvin, Courtney, Erin, Amanda, Bill, Kiyle & Kenicia), 10 ½ great-grandchildren.

      Throughout his life he worked many jobs from selling insurance, car sales, Boeing and Todd Shipyard until he found his niche and became a police officer with the Winslow PD. He was later hired on with Poulsbo PD and stayed for 23 years and retiring in 2008.

      A celebration of life will be held for Bill at the Poulsbo Yacht Club at 18129 Fjord Dr., Poulsbo on July 14 at 2:00 pm.

      In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Kathi Goertzen Foundation to raise funds for brain tumor research.
