Robert Schneider

Robert Schneider passed away in peace surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 3, 2019. Robert is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jacquie Schneider; his daughter Mary Anne Yanagimachi and husband Dan Jensen; son Bill Schneider and wife Katherine; daughter Margaret Malowney and husband Stephen; daughter Madeleine Stevens and husband Dana; grandchildren Robert Malowney and wife Brittany; Nick Yanagimachi; Monica Malowney; Teagan Schneider; and great-grandson Maksym Malowney.

Robert was born in Seattle and was the fifth and youngest child of Jack and Sarah Schneider. He grew up in Suquamish, Washington where he attended grade school along with his siblings Mary Anne, John, Dick and Helen. Robert graduated from Seattle Preparatory High School and enlisted in the Navy at age 17 during World War II. Following the end of World War II, Robert attended Seattle University where he met the love of his life and future wife, Jacquie Kniess. Robert and Jacquie were married on June 14, 1952.

Upon his graduation from Seattle University, Robert accepted a job with the Federal government working for the Bureau of Standards as a mathematician, a job that took Robert and Jacquie to Corona, California and to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After the birth of their first daughter, Mary Anne, Robert accepted a job with Boeing and moved to Bellevue, Washington. While living in Bellevue, Robert and Jacquie had three more children, Bill, Margaret and Madeleine.

Over the course of his career as a mathematician, Robert was involved in projects ranging from work on some of the first US commercial jet airliners to support of the Space Program. While working for Boeing, Robert continually honed his mathematical expertise, earning a Master’s Degree in 1968. Robert retired from Boeing in 1987.

Robert was renowned for his master gardening, a hobby that both Robert and Jacquie shared and the results of which are still reflected in the verdant grounds surrounding the family home.

Robert was an active member of St Cecilia’s Catholic Church and was involved in many parish activities throughout the years, including serving as an usher for weekly mass. Robert also volunteered at Helpline and mentored many friends and family members throughout his long life.

Robert enjoyed spending time with his family and loved listening to jazz music.

There will be a Mass of the Resurrection for Robert on Saturday, April 13 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church followed by a reception in the church hall.
