Mij passed away in her sleep last night after a long battle AFIB, an Enlarged heart and Edema. She left behind her sons John Walter Weindl, David Frederick Weindl, Jamie Woodward Weindl and Joseph Vincent Weindl; her grandsons Adam Joshua Weindl and Brody James Weindl; her granddaughter Sophia Angelina Weindl and Mij’s sisters Carolyn and Mary. (P.S. I didn’t purposely put the males first and the females last. I was really going by age and relationship to Mij. After all, Mij and her sisters were ardent feminists, which I found out when Mij and I were first dating. I’m happy to say that I’m glad I married her anyway.) She also left behind her first husband of 10 years, Tom Weindl and myself, her second husband of 37 years, Orville Eide.

Mij was the middle daughter of Walt and Milly Woodward who were Co-Editors and Publishers of the Bainbridge Review from the late 1930’s to the mid 1960’s.

Mij was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1962. She went on to Seattle U where she was a Songleader and got a degree in Religious Studies. Years later, she then obtained her Masters of Social Work from the University of Washington. That was in 1980 when Reagan came into office and cut funding to many of our social programs. Which was why she had a Temp job as a receptionist at the engineering firm where I was working. All she had to do was flash her eyes at me, and I was hooked.

She loved to go hiking, camping and to go on various trips in whatever broken down car or van we had at the time.

Per her wishes, Mij’s body will be cremated and in lieu of a funeral there will be a memorial gathering in two to three months to celebrate her life. Per her wishes, it will take place on the cliffs above the Dungeness Spit near Sequim. Bill of fare for the gathering will be peanut butter sandwiches on Oroweat “Oatnut” bread, Kettle potato chips and Welches grape juice.
