Mary Catherine Hohl

Mary Catherine Hohl, 69, a resident of Sun City West, Arizona and a former longtime resident of Bainbridge Island, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She suffered a severe brain injury after an accidental fall and passed away nine days later surrounded by members of her family.

Mary was born in Kokomo, Indiana on July 30th, 1947. She was adopted and raised by George and Mary Drummey in South Bend, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her adopted parents. Her adoptive brother, George, passed away in­­­­­ 1993.

Mary had two biological siblings, Claire Vida, of Lomita, California; Steve Sitko of Salinas, Calif.; and four step-siblings, Jim Sitko of Houston, Texas; Tom Sitko of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; Collette Libertin, of Akron, Ohio; and Margaret Sitko of Pittsburgh, Pa.

During her adult life, after years of searching, Mary located her biological and step-siblings and reunited with each and every one of them before her passing. She was attending a reunion with them in Somerset, Pa. when her tragic accident occurred.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen Hohl, formerly of Bainbridge Island and now a resident of Sun City West; son, Chris Hardy of Queen Creek, Ariz.; daughters, Dana Hardy Bingham of Pittsburgh, Mary Culver of St. Louis, Missouri and Katy Nordstrom of Bainbridge Island. She had 10 amazing grandchildren she adored and many friends all over the world who loved her dearly.

Services for Mary will be held in both Sun City West, where she resided for the past eight years, and Bainbridge Island, where she resided for more than 25 years. Both services will include a religious ceremony followed by a tribute and memorial service.

The first service will be held at Saint Cecelia Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 on Bainbridge Island. That will be followed by a second service beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at Prince of Peace in Sun City West.

The family is seeking pictures of Mary from friends and family during any point in her life. The pictures will be used as part of a visual tribute at both services, and will be kept by the family as a lasting memory. The family asked that photos be scanned and saved as a JPEG attachment and emailed to mmhmemorial@gmail.com.
