At the age of 100, Lois E. Lawson, formerly of Bainbridge Island, died at the Covenant Shores on Mercer Island on Jan. 28, 2017, surrounded by family.
Lois was born and raised in Butte, Montana. She was one of four women at the Montana School of Mines where she met her husband, Robert W. Lawson. After two years, she transferred to the University of Montana and graduated in 1937. Lois and Bob were married in the Little Church Around the Corner in New York City, where Bob had accepted a job. Shortly thereafter, they were transferred to India where they lived for four years until they were forced out by WWII.
Bob’s work took Lois and Bob all over the United States resulting in their having lived in 27 different homes during their 70 years of marriage. Eventually they retired to Bainbridge Island to be near their two daughters, Betty Drumheller of Bellevue (Gary Nelson) and Bobbi Benson of Seattle (Jim). On Bainbridge they were members of Wing Point Golf Club and Lois was active in PEO.
Lois’ life was filled with family, adventure, travel, and friends. She and Bob had friends all around the world.
In addition to her daughters, Lois is survived by her grandchildren Bill and Corinne and Laurie and Mark, and two great-grandchildren Talia and Zane.
A celebration of Lois’ life will be held at Covenant Shores’ Fellowship Hall mid-March. In lieu of flowers donations in Lois’ name can be made to the Robert W. Lawson Scholarship, c/o Montana Tech Foundation, 1300 West Park Street, Butte, Montana 59701 or to PEO at www.peointernational.com
