Laura Margaret Nicodemus

Jan. 13,1929 - Jan. 26, 2017

Laura Margaret Nicodemus (Kainulainen), beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 26, 2017.

Born in Bremerton, Washington on January 13,1929, she was the youngest of six children to Matthew and Edla Kainulainen.

During WWII, Laura worked at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Keyport where she met and married the love of her life, Marvin Wayne Nicodemus. Over the next 65 years they were blessed with six children, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Together they created an amazing and fulfilling life.

Laura had spent her childhood in Poulsbo on her family’s farm on Stottlemeyer Road North East that still remains today. It now seems to have been the most natural course that during their life together she and Marvin purchased the original family farm and continued to raise their family in the loving home that she remembered so dearly. Her children will remember her as an incredibly kind, gentle, selfless, and patient mother who loved them at every stage of their lives.

Laura loved spending time with family and friends. She shared her love of gardening and craft projects with her daughters and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed making an assortment of prizes for the monthly Pinochle group that both she and Marvin enjoyed.

The entire family fondly remembers the trips to their cabin on the Wenachee River, digging for razor clams at Ocean Shores, helping Marvin catch smelt at the Klaloch Beach area, picnics at Ruby Beach and the great baking smells that came from the kitchen when she was making bread, donuts and “the best ever Cream Puffs.”

Laura and her kind heart will be missed by all who came to know her!

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Marvin, brother Eino and sisters Helen, Martha, Helmi and Elsie. She is survived by her children Bruce, Linda, Dennis, Larry, Susan and Debra.

A private family service will precede a celebration of her life that will be held at the Vinland Lutheran Church Social Hall on March 4, 2017 at noon.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the Vinland Lutheran Church, PO Box 2134, Poulsbo, Washington 98370 or Hospice of Kitsap County, 10356 Silverdale Way, Silverdale, Washington 98383
