Beloved teacher, husband and father Virgil Henry Rogers Jr. passed away on May 10, 2015 at his home on Bainbridge Island with his wife by his side.

He was born on June 14, 1944 in Torrance, California, son of Catherine Caroline Casbaker from Pittsburg, California and Virgil Henry Rogers from Caldwell, Louisiana.

Virgil began his martial arts studies in Okinawa while serving in the Air Force in 1966.

After earning his black belt teaching qualifications he opened West Marin Martial Arts in Fairfax, California in 1977, and Island Martial Arts Dojo on Bainbridge Island in 1989 where he continued to teach until the time of his death.

He is survived by wife Nancy Rogers; sister Charlene Ahlstrom; daughters Shandi Montiel and Felicity Byrne-Rogers; five stepchildren and seven grandchildren.

We are saddened by his passing. He will be remembered fondly by his family, friends and peers.
