Teachers retire after a combined 59 years

Two teachers at The Island School were celebrated at a retirement party on June 3.

Betsy Carroll taught fifth grade at the school for 20 years, and Kathy Schott taught kindergarten there for 39 years.

Students will continue to benefit from the mastery and expertise of these beloved teachers, school officials said, since the pair will do more than visit from time to time.

Carroll will volunteer on the Ometepe Kids Can Make a Difference Calendar project and the fifth-grade immigration play.

“Teaching is one of my greatest passions, and I cannot imagine life without it,” she said.

Schott will continue to delight students by reading stories aloud from her kindergarten rocking chair.
