Longtime Bainbridge Island resident Shig Moritani passed away Friday, April 22, 2016.

He was born on Bainbridge Island on April 10, 1921. His family was among the first strawberry farmers, and later grew raspberries that were sold exclusively to Fredrick & Nelson for one of their desserts.

After internment during the war, he became a Merchant Marine, spending the majority of his life traveling the world.

A lifelong bachelor, late in life he married Miyoko Narimatsu and gained a loving family.

He loved to travel, fish and tend his vegetable garden.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Nobuichi, Tatsukichi, and his wife Miyoko. He is survived by his step-children Brion (Judy) Narimatsu, Ray (Maureen) Narimatsu, Gary (Julie) Narimatsu, and Joanne (Craig Widenbach) Narimatsu; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and cousins Lynne and Lani.
