Rep. Hansen named ‘Legislator of the Year’ by Washington Council of Police and Sheriffs

State Rep. Drew Hansen has been named as one of the “Legislators of the Year” by the Washington Council of Police and Sheriffs.

Hansen, a 23rd District lawmaker and a Bainbridge Island Democrat, was chosen by the organization for the honor at the council’s recent legislative/membership meeting.

“It’s a huge honor to get an award from our state’s law enforcement officers,” Hansen said. “They have a very difficult, demanding job, and I’m grateful for their support.”

The council praised Hansen’s work on legislation relating to body cameras for law enforcement officers, and said: “Rep. Hansen recognized that the rush to implement body cam programs was a detriment to law enforcement officers and developed a task force within sideboards that were acceptable to WACOPS and provided us with two task force members.”

The organization supports those who dedicate their careers to serving and protecting the public through legislative advocacy, legal defense and other professional support. Its members hail from law enforcement guilds from across Washington.
