Three candidates have filed for the District 1 position on the Bainbridge Island School Board.

Lynn Smith, Tatiana Epanchin-Troyan and Duncan C. Macfarlane have filed as candidates for the school board seat, which carries a four-year term.

Voters will choose two of the candidates during the Primary Election on Aug. 4. The top two candidates will square off in November’s General Election.

Only one other school board position will see a contested race in November.

Incumbent Tim Kinkead, the current District 4 school board director, is being challenged by Renard E. Burnett Sr.

“I remain committed to improving academic progress and student achievement for every one of our students,” Kinkead said. “I will continue to advocate and support plans that result in high quality instruction and curriculum that improves student outcomes.”

School Board President Mev Hoberg, the District 3 board member, is running unopposed.

In other races, three candidates for the Bainbridge Island City Council will run unopposed.

Councilman Mike Scott is the sole candidate for the District 4, Central Ward seat.

Councilwoman Sarah Blossom is also running unopposed for the District 6, South Ward position.

Kol Medina is now the only candidate for the District 2, North Ward seat. Susan D. Bergen has withdrawn as a candidate.

The only race with two candidates is the District 1, at-large city council seat. Ron Peltier and Pegeen Mulhern are both running for the position.
