Police to accept unwanted meds

The Bainbridge Island Police Department will take part in another prescription drug drop-off day later this month.

The department will accept prescription medications for disposal from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28.

During the one-day event, community members can stop by the police station at 625 Winslow Way East to dispose of their unwanted medications as part of the Drug Enforcement Agency’s nationwide “Drug Take-Back Initiative.”

“It’s important to dispose of unwanted medication in the safest, most environmentally responsible way and the BIPD is happy to provide this service to our residents,” said Police Chief Matthew Hamner.

Both controlled and non-controlled prescription substances — including over-the-counter substances — will be accepted. Intravenous solutions, injectables, syringes or medical waste will not be accepted.

Islanders who miss the event should keep their unwanted medications until the next event, which is expected to be held in the spring.
