Picnic on the STO planned

A picnic is being planned on the first leg of the Sound to Olympics Trail next month.

The reason? “For the love of Bainbridge.”

The picnic will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4. The event is being financed by the city of Bainbridge Island, which awarded a $500 grant in June to the “best community project idea” that came up at the “For the Love of Bainbridge” workshop. The workshop was led by Peter Kageyama, author of “For the Love of Cities,” who has spoken all over the world about community development and the people who are making change happen.

There is no cost to attend the picnic, but city officials said attendees must reserve a table. Guests can reserve up to two tables (for a total of 16 guests). Make reservations at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dinner-on-the-sto-tickets-47892946091.

The event is a bring-your-own-picnic affair, and people must pack it in, pack it out. Also, no dogs.

“The idea of dinner on the STO is a great way to build community in a fun yet simple way,” said City Manager Doug Schulze. “I hope to see many Islanders at the event enjoying a great summer evening.”
