Park district to house teen center in aquatic center building

The Teen Center will be moving into the Bainbridge Aquatic Center.

At a recent park board meeting, Recreation Superintendent Bryan Garoutte gave a presentation which detailed the park district’s need to find a new location for the Teen Center. At the meeting, recreation staff stressed the importance of maintaining a presence on the high school campus and providing a safe gathering spot for teens.

To achieve these goals, parks will be moving the program to the aquatic center in an area previously used by the Bainbridge Island Boys & Girls Club.

Meeting Room C will be set up as a permanent gathering area including couches and a big screen television, plus computers so students can do their homework. Pool tables will also be set up in Meeting Room B.

Several months ago, the park district’s teen center received notice to vacate its space behind Bainbridge High from the Bainbridge Island School District. The move of the Teen Center was needed in order to allow space for the district to rebuild the 300 Building at the high school.
