Man having ‘psychotic event’ delays ferry sailing from Bainbridge

A ferry sailing from the Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal had a 15-minute delay late Friday night after a 26-year-old man from Port Angeles had a “psychotic event,” according to the Washington State Patrol, and drove his car through the entrance gate at the terminal, abandoned his car and tried to get on the ferry from the pedestrian walkway.

The State Patrol said the man was detained without incident.

Charges are pending.

The man was driving a 2001 Ford Escort into the terminal just before 11:30 p.m. Friday, according to a State Patrol report, when he went through the gate and made his way through the terminal to the walkway.

The man’s vehicle was towed from the terminal lot after he was detained.
