Immigration is the topic at The Salon

Islanders will gather Friday for the next edition of The Salon.

The topic this week: immigration.

The Salon: A Forum for Conversation is a monthly discussion group hosted by the Bainbridge Public Library. It meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon on the fourth Friday of the month in the library’s conference room. This week’s meeting is Friday, July 27.

Organizers say The Salon is for men and women who enjoy stimulating conversation and wish to learn from others in civil dialog. Topics will vary, but the mode will be general interest subjects that impact the public. The Salon conversations will be energizing, fun and thought-provoking.

For this week’s discussion, organizers have set the basis for the conversation:

The United States is a proud nation of immigrants. All of us have ancestors who made the journey, created and shaped our culture. Though the economy and the needs of our nation and other countries have changed dramatically, immigration continues, sanctioned or not. What position should the United States take with regard to newcomers to create a coherent and fair immigration policy for now and the future?
