AUGUST 8

9:14 p.m. A Saab 900 driven by a Bainbridge woman struck a deer on Lynwood Center Road south of Emerald Way.

AUGUST 9

11:31 a.m. A resident of Soundview Drive reported that contractors hired by a neighbor had tresspassed andfelled trees that appeared to be on her property. An officer inspected the property and saw that several small trees had been cut or trimmed and one large tree had been cut that had roots stretching across the property line. It had nearly fallen onto a tent in the yard and had damaged a smaller tree. The contractors acknowledged that they had been on the reporting party’s property, and that they should have asked for permission. They offered to clear the debris from the downed tree, which they did. The neighbor who had hired the trimmers said she had not given them permission to cut the large tree, which had been the center of a dispute between the neighbors. She said she would consider paying for the downed tree.

2:34 p.m. An Ohio man reported that a laptop had been stolen from his room at a High School Road hotel. He said he had left the laptop, a IBM ThinkPad, in the room that morning and returned in the early afternoon to find it missing. He said the laptop belonged to the company he works for, and requires a password to log into. Hotel staff checked the building’s computer system, to see what key cards had been used to access the room. One employee was found to have borrowed a master key and entered the room, though it was not on his list to service. The suspect was stopped in traffic two days later and arrested. The laptop was not located in a search of the man’s vehicle and home. While searching the vehicle police did find a multi-colored smoking pipe with marijuana residue inside along with several pieces of foil containing residue, consistent with the use of Oxycodone. In an interview the man’s story did not match that of other employees and he could not explain why he had entered the hotel room the laptop was taken from. Officers also confronted the man about paraphernalia in the vehicle and he said it likely belonged to his mother. Later he stated that he wanted to help the police arrest Oxycodone dealers. He was booked into jail on two counts of drug paraphernalia possession along with the theft charge.

AUGUST 10

4:41 p.m. An iPod, two large box speakers, a speaker amplifier and several CDs were stolen from a Chevy Blazer parked at Safeway. The vehicle’s owner said he had left a window rolled down and couldn’t remember whether he had locked the doors. The vehicle’s CD player and dash board were also damaged in the prowl. The loss was estimated at $750. No suspects.

AUGUST 11

318 p.m. A gardener found a cell phone and a vial of marijuana while mowing the front lawn of a home for sale on Viewcrest Place. The items were placed in evidence.

AUGUST 12

8:21 a.m. A citizen turned in a women’s Univega Maximo Sport bicycle found near the water tower at Bainbridge High School. The citizen filled out a claim form. The bicycle was placed in storage.

8:48 a.m. A set of keys were placed in the station’s overnight drop box. An accompanying note said the keys had been found at a garage sale on Pleasant Place in late June. The key ring held seven keys, including one to a Nissan vehicle. A box containing hearing aid-type batteries was also attached. The keys were entered into found property for safekeeping.

6:45 p.m. A $2 Obama campaign sign was reported stolen from a yard on Ralston Road. The resident said it was the second time the sign has been taken.

AUGUST 14

9:13 a.m. A resident of Kitsap Street reported a 24-foot length of copper wire stolen from his property. He said he had found the wire while digging on the property a year before and had left it near a fence along the property line. The man said he had been in a dispute with his neighbor about the fence, and had heard the neighbor measuring the height of a fence post the night before the wire went missing. Police attempted to contact the neighbor, but the neighbor was not in. The investigation continues.
