Driver airlifted after SUV collides with ACCESS bus on Bainbridge

A woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center Tuesday, after her Chrysler PT Cruiser collided with a Kitsap Transit ACCESS bus at the intersection of Torvanger Road and Sunrise Drive.
The airlift was precautionary, according to Bainbridge Police Lt. Chris Jensen.
The ACCESS bus was carrying two passengers. The bus driver and passengers were uninjured.
The accident occurred shortly after 11 a.m.
According to police and witnesses at the scene, the PT Cruiser was traveling east on Torvanger Road and failed to yield to the ACCESS bus, which was motoring north on Sunrise Drive. The ACCESS bus did not have time to stop and hit the passenger side of the SUV. The impact flipped the SUV onto its driver side on the east shoulder of the intersection.
The driver of the PT Cruiser was trapped briefly in the vehicle before she was removed by responders.
Torvanger Road and Sunrise Drive were closed while the accident was cleared but have been reopened.
