Did you feel that? Earth’s equatorial plane passed through the center of the sun on Monday. Commonly referred to as the Spring Equinox, this special time of year marks the beginning of the planet’s northern tilt toward the sun. The equinox also heralds the first few days of the year when Washingtonians begin to look up once again in hopes of seeing perhaps just a faint hint of blue sky beyond the clouds, letting us know that Summer is well on its way.

This is your first weekend of spring, how you spend your it could very well determine the trajectory of your summer, best choose wisely.

On Friday at 7:30, get over to St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on Wyatt Way to check out The Amabile Choir as they present their spring concert series, “Dona Nobis Pacem.” The program will feature the Fauré Requiem and will include other songs of peace and hope. Tickets are available at Dana’s Showhouse (across from the Blackbird Bakery) and from Amabile singers; suggested donation is $15.

Come Saturday save some time at the end of the night to go check out the the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art as they host Art After Dark 2.0: Art Extravaganza, from 7 to 10 p.m. Take over BIMA for a night of interactive and creative activities in this special Kitsap Regional Library program. The late 18th-Century poet and surgeon, Joseph Roux once said, “Poetry is truth in its Sunday clothes.”

Throw on your Sunday clothes and make it over tot San Carlos Restaurant at 1 p.m. for “A Prelude to Poetry Month,” a free all-ages community poetry reading event that has been running for nearly 35 years. Everyone is welcome to come and read, or just listen. The bar will be open, and dinner available after the reading. After that, rest easy knowing that the first few bricks in the road leading to your Summer have been laid.
