Bainbridge Schools Foundation names new director

Allyson Brown will be the new executive director of the Bainbridge Schools Foundation, the nonprofit has announced.

Brown replaces retiring executive director Mairead Shutt, who held the position for the past three years.

The Bainbridge Schools Foundation works in close partnership with the Bainbridge public school community to inspire students and empower teachers. The foundation raises funds, leverages resources and acts as a catalyst to involve the entire community in public education in the Bainbridge Island School District.

“The board of directors is excited to welcome Allyson to the Bainbridge Schools Foundation,” said Sonja Fritts, president of the foundation’s board.

“She has strong community roots, a background in business leadership, and fundraising savvy that will help guide the future of BSF,” Fritts added. “Allyson also has a very nice balance of ‘head’ and ‘heart.’ This is particularly fitting at a time when BSF has been working with the district on its new social emotional learning initiative.”

Brown comes to the foundation from IslandWood, where she served in various leadership positions, most recently as senior vice president of philanthropy. In her 14 years at IslandWood, she led fundraising campaigns as well as directed marketing and community engagement efforts.

She also served as the executive director of One Call for All, the island-wide community fundraising effort.

Brown said she is looking forward to partnering with the community to support public education.

“I want to deepen how the community sees the importance of investing in our kids and schools,” Brown said. “I believe in the work at BSF and am honored to be a part of its future.”

School district officials welcomed the announcement.

“BSF has a track-record of providing much-needed funds to our district and schools,” said Superintendent Peter Bang-Knudsen. “BSF’s support helps us carry out our mission of ensuring students become global citizens who are prepared for personal and professional success. I look forward to partnering with Allyson and continuing the district’s strong and collaborative relationship with BSF.”
