Bainbridge police chief adds two to ‘Washington’s Most Wanted’

Two Bainbridge Island natives have been added to Washington’s “most wanted” list.

Ericka Nitz, 24, and Kristopher Thurston Nickerson, 31, were identified by Bainbridge police this week as suspects involved in a recent car prowl where credit cards were stolen.

“They both have family on the island so that concerns us that they’re on the island,” Bainbridge Island Police Chief Matthew Hamner told Q13’s “Washington’s Most Wanted” program Tuesday morning. A cameraman from the Seattle television show came to Bainbridge police headquarters this week to film a segment for the show.

The case stems from a vehicle that was prowled on Sept. 13 while it was parked at the boat launch on Fort Ward Hill Road.

The car was locked, but the prowlers were able to enter the car by a window that was rolled down enough to unlock the door.

The car owner’s purse was discovered missing.

Hamner said that credit cards stolen from the purse were used at the Town & Country Market and an island gas station the same day as the prowl.

Nitz also entered a downtown retail store with the cards, authorities alleged.

The store clerk recognized the woman as a former Bainbridge High School student, police said, and knew she did not match the name on the card.

Nitz returned shortly thereafter with a man who accompanied her out of the store.

Bainbridge police are familiar with the duo, and after speaking with the store clerk, were able to confirm the man was Nickerson.

Both individuals have an extensive criminal history, Hamner said.

“This isn’t their first offense,” Hamner said. “The officers know those two run together.”

Bainbridge police arrested Nitz in July and November 2010.

Nickerson was arrested in January and February of 2009 by Bainbridge police.

Both currently have no-bail felony warrants for their arrest by the Department of Corrections.

Nitz is also wanted by Bainbridge police for theft and vehicle prowling.

Police have probable cause that she is in possession of stolen property and has committed second-degree theft and second-degree identity theft.

Nickerson has a robbery warrant from Thurston County, and has used firearms in past crimes.

Hamner said Nickerson in particular should be considered armed and dangerous.

If seen, Bainbridge police warn not to approach the pair and to call 911.

Nitz is 5-foot-3 with blonde hair and green eyes.

Nickerson has a prominent tattoo on his neck and is 6-foot-3 with brown eyes and black hair.

“We have a limited number of officers, so having thousands more eyes looking for us is of huge value,” Hamner said.
