Bainbridge council plans public hearing for new permits

The Bainbridge Island City Council is looking at updating its regulations that cover stormwater management.

A public hearing is planned for Tuesday, Nov. 22 during the council’s regular business meeting.

City officials note that every city and county in Washington state has been notified by the Washington State Department of Ecology to adopt a new stormwater management manual and complete updates to the regulations that will remove barriers to utilizing low-impact development techniques.

In addition to adopting the manual, the Bainbridge council will also consider creating a Site Assessment and Development Improvement Permit that would require that a stormwater assessment be completed prior to a project being eligible to submit building permits.

The newly created permit would cost approximately $1,500 for projects with less than 5,000 square feet of hard surface and approximately $4,000 for more than 5,000 feet of hard surface.

The permit would apply to new structures greater than 800 square feet.
