Bainbridge celebrates reopening of Waterfront Park

Strike up the band: Bainbridge Island is celebrating the completion of the major makeover of Waterfront Park.

The city is hosting a celebration from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 14 at the park.

The gathering includes free ice cream from Mora Ice Creamery — while supplies last — and performances by the Woodward Jazz Band.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for 4:30 p.m. Community members are welcome to come early, or stay later, to enjoy ice cream, beautiful new views, and all that jazz.

“The improvements to Waterfront Park illustrate the city’s interest in providing all members of the community with access to the waterfront,” said City Manager Doug Schulze.

“I want to encourage everyone to come down to the park on June 14 and join us in celebrating this beautiful public space,” he said.

As part of the project, the construction crews installed enhancements that include handicap-compliant pathways for universal access, additional park seating areas, plus open space improvements for civic events and other informal events. The park’s infrastructure has also been improved to handle stormwater runoff.
